Oprah Winfrey

The Situation at Hand

Hello beautiful people! Long time no talk. 🙂 I’ve been away for some time and as I was thinking about my “comeback post” I realized that the best post would be on a topic that I’ve had on my mind for some time, self-care (making self-care priority #1). You see, my new year’s resolution this year is self-care, and I believe that after the past few years that we’ve all had with the world experiencing global crises, it’s a resolution that we all ought to share.

As a senior in high school I have found a new appreciation for self-care being under the awkward balance of joy and stress that senior year brings. From studying hard, to connecting with old and new friends, applying to colleges, expanding my artistic creativity, and spending time with all of you on this website, I have definitely been trying new things and learning how to juggle them all. Today, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite things to incorporate on self-care days that I think you’ll love to add to yours. Let’s get into it!

The Case For Self-Care

I know I sound like a broken record, but for old time’s sake I’ll say it again, self-care is so important. As girls and women it’s easy to pile more and more things on until eventually we reach a breaking point. We can really benefit from restructuring our priorities to make self-care priority #1. Having a set self-care routine can combat that and reduce mental overwhelm. Good self-care leads to boosted confidence and productivity, relieves stress, and allows life to be enjoyed more. Everyone’s self-care routine is different, but getting started is what matters, so don’t stress when you see elaborate social-media routines.

6 Simple Ideas

  1. Explore Nature

I love technology as much as the next person, but I’ll be the first to tell you that sometimes I really do need to unplug to center myself. Taking some time to touch some grass and feel the wind on your face sans technology can be one of the best things to happen to you. Set up a hammock and chill!

2. Make Rest Time Intentional

It’s easy to claim that we’re resting when we watch YouTube and try to fit in “rest” at random intervals of the day, but I found that it can be more draining than restful. I’ve been trying to carve out time in my busy days lately to relax by reading books and being mindful while drinking tea. Taking joy in the little things in life like looking out the window, reading a favorite book, and enjoying times to rest while I eat have worked wonders for me. From one busy human to another, I highly recommend this!

3. Rest Your Eyes

Like my statement from before, it’s so easy for me to claim that I am resting and then find myself chilling in bed snug as a bug in a rug watching my favorite show. Hours later, I feel more tired than rested. Lately I’ve been embracing nap times (P.s. they’re not just for little kids!). Sleep is our best friend, let’s not push it away. Who doesn’t love sleep? 🙂

4. Hang Out With Friends…Or Don’t

Depending on your schedule and personality, you might be someone that spends lots of time with friends and hardly has any time to themselves, or you might be the opposite tied to a busy schedule and hardly making the time for a fun outing with friends. If you relate more to the former situation, I recommend spending a night in and doing things that you enjoy, or better yet, sleeping! If the latter sounds more like you (join the club!), try to schedule a fun day with your friends for a couple of hours. Recently, I had a fun girls’ day picnic with my friends! (10/10 would recommend)

5. Arts and Crafts

I love coloring books, and the internet definitely agrees with me that coloring can be a very relaxing activity. Trust me, you’re never too old to grab a coloring book and make it come to life. Also, try some needle arts like crocheting and cross-stitching; they’re great for coordination and since they don’t always require the most attention they can be pretty relaxing (p.s. you’re not old just because you like them 🙂 ). Take these activities outside and enjoy the great outdoors for extra fun!

6. Have Skin-care Days and Relaxing Ambience

Trust me, you’re never too old for a good girls’ night in. With or without friends it’s fun to reach for your favorite face mask and light your room with your favorite lamps. Lately I have been loving listening to light academia playlists and running my essential oil diffuser. If you’re a student, you already know what I’m talking about! (lol) 🙂

Thanks For Coming!

Hey! Thanks for coming to my website, I hope that you try some of these self-care ideas and love them. Make sure to come back frequently so that you don’t miss any amazing content and stay tuned for an exciting interview. I can’t tell you who it is yet (that’s a surprise 🙂 ), but I know that you’ll be very inspired! As always…

Ylaska Tejeda Interview

Hello Everyone! I hope that you are doing well. Today I am elated to share with you this wonderfully insightful interview from Ylaska Tejeda, the Global Brigades Honduran Program Coordinator. I am so blessed to have gotten this inspiring interview from a woman so dedicated and determined to positively impact the communities in Honduras. Please Without further ado, here is the interview!

  1. Could you give us a brief introduction of yourself?

My name is Ylaska Tejeda and I recently completed my bachelor’s degree in international relations at Universidad Católica de Honduras. I began volunteer work at age fifteen where I served rural communities, then worked for a Baptist Organization handling the same duties. In May 2015 I began working for Global Brigades as a translator and coordinator, while also attending classes full time. During the pandemic, I completed an internship at the National Department of Consular and Migratory Affairs which was quite an enriching experience.

2. How do you help the communities in Honduras?

All my jobs and volunteer work have revolved around serving rural communities. My job with Global Brigades has allowed me to join volunteers from different countries with a wide variety of assistance programs such as Water, Engineering, Public Health, Legal Empowerment, Dental, and Medical. I have been able to help with translation between Spanish and English speakers, to coordinate logistics resources (such as staff, schedules, transportation), support other staff members to perform baseline data surveys, participate in Women’s Empowerment and Community Health Workers Conferences. In my personal life, I have tried my best to raise awareness regarding information on the reality of rural communities and resources to help. I am currently facilitating Medical Tele brigades where I have the opportunity to share information with volunteers about the healthcare system of Honduras.

3. What inspired you to help Honduran communities?

I grew up in the capital of Honduras, Tegucigalpa, where my family went through the common economic hardships as those around me. In Honduras, there is no solid concept of “middle class” so hardship is a common occurrence among typical households. The first time I was able to volunteer was through a friend who invited me to join her and the experience was eye-opening. People in the rural areas lacked a lot of resources but they were still resilient and welcoming with warmth and love. While I did not feel luckier than those around me, I did feel blessed to have the opportunity to be part of something way bigger than me. Since the moment of my first community, I knew my heart belonged to the people I was helping and I did not want to approach the volunteer work in the wrong way. I wanted to learn more about the proper ways to help and if it was possible, to even make a career of it! I decided to study international relations to learn more about international cooperation projects so I could have a professional approach in volunteer work. Since I first started, I have not stopped learning new things from people in the communities and it is my honor to say that I work for them. It has shaped my entire personality and strengthened my character.

4. What do you think are the most common obstacles for teen girls striving for education in Honduras?

I think life for teen girls in underdeveloped countries comes with a lot of obstacles. In the context of Honduras, there are social patterns that need to stop such as the male domineering behavior known as “machismo”, which results in many negative outcomes. Teen girls are either expected to stay at home from an early age or need to find jobs and quit school to support their families. cleaning homes or babysitting for others is the most common job for these women. Lots of teens have to move to the city to seek jobs where they are not guaranteed legal protection, consistent pay, or benefits. Another problem is the high rate of teen pregnancy due to the lack of education regarding basic women’s health and birth control methods, resulting in school desertion. Honduras is hard for everyone, not just girls, to further education, having been made only worse by the pandemic. The public education system has slowed since the pandemic began in early 2020 due to most kids/teens not having easy access to internet services where they would otherwise be able to take online classes.

5. What can other countries and individuals do to help girls in Honduras succeed and overcome these obstacles?

I think the best way is to get engaged in aid projects that focus on that specifically. Nowadays, you can find all kinds of resources on the internet. There are all types of organizations and projects but not enough people are interested. The essential thing to keep in mind is to make sure any resource we find is transparent and professional about their methods with staff that clearly outline their objectives and impact.

6. How fulfilling is community service for you as a career?

It is very fulfilling and it is what drives my professional life. I personally would love to work for the International Committee of the Red Cross and for that, I have a long road to travel. There are a lot of misconceptions about volunteering, international aide, humanitarian relief and what it all involves. This field requires people to be academically prepared to properly manage projects and direct others regarding respect for other cultures and their beliefs. I want to be able to serve others professionally and I am grateful for the opportunities that I have had so far!

7. What is your advice for young women striving to positively impact their communities but aren’t sure how to begin?

To continue doing as much as you can and do not stop just because you can’t see results right away. Effort and determination take people to places they never imagined. Sometimes, in order to help others, you have to focus on working as much as you can on yourself while always keeping your head in the game, knowing where you want to get will eventually pay off. Always keep a good heart! I personally believe in God, so trusting Him in every step I take has helped me to positively impact the people around me!

8. What is your advice for overcoming self-doubts in your life and journey to achieving your goals and dreams?

This question is really deep! I have gone through a lot of difficult situations in my life and it is normal to experience fear, pain, sadness, etc. One thing I have never allowed is to let things affect my capacity to continue growing. I have strong confidence in who I am and the things I can achieve. I sometimes do not know how I will achieve them, but I know I will and I will do it along with the values I was taught by my family. There are a lot of things we can not control but we can control how much we are willing to fight for what we want. God has a purpose for everyone and I won’t let self-doubt keep me from fulfilling it. Everyone needs to find something to keep them steady and going even when things get too hard.

I hope that you really enjoyed that interview and found it as inspiring as I did. Remember that you have the power to positively impact your community and the world as well. Share this interview with others to share the motivation and inspiration! As always…

Shirley Chisholm: Amazing Women

(Shirley Chisholm pictured above; Image Credit: The Washington Post)

Hello Everyone and welcome to Live Life The Girl Way! Today is the first post in the Amazing Women Series. This is a series where I share an amazing woman in history with all of you every week. It is so important for us to celebrate the women in history that have made important differences in our world. I encourage you to read and share this post and make time to come back every week to learn about a new amazing woman. This week’s amazing woman is Shirley Chisholm, read on to find out all about her!

  • Shirley Chisholm was the First African American Woman To Run For President

To run for president is an amazing feat any day, but in the year that Shirley Chisholm decided to run for president made it a historic action. As an African American woman, deciding to run for president was a statement. It was a statement that Shirley Chisholm was not afraid to go where no one had gone before. She did this not just for her own chance to become president, but to inspire all of the girls and women that came after her to forgo any limitations and to go after their goals. This was a huge step in the course of history and still something that deserves to be celebrated today. This single action removed any doubt from the minds of young female minorities that they could not run for president, a feat that had not been attempted before.

  • She Campaigned For Brooklyn’s First Black Judge

Shirley Chisholm was a woman determined to make and support positive change. Not only did she make the changes herself, but she also helped others to break barriers and make positive changes in society. This inspires me to strive to help others to make positive change because society only moves forward when we all support each other in our efforts to make the world the best place possible. Many people in history worked to make changes, but the successful ones worked not only for themselves but with others to make the most impact possible. This attitude of support and collaboration that Shirley Chisholm carried was an amazing trait that greatly contributed to her success.

  • She Served in the NY State Assembly

Serving in the NY State Assembly was a great honor and a large step in Shirley Chisholm’s career. Chisholm’s career was not an easy one that was full of predictable steps, instead, it was a historic one in which almost every step was a historic moment that America and the world watched. Chisholm maintained her steady trajectory to achievement with grace; she never gave up or stopped when challenged, instead, she embraced the challenges and decided to move forward. From this observation, I learned that I too should never walk away from my goals due to challenges that I have to face, instead, I should move forward and strive to achieve in all that I do. I think this mindset of determination is one that we should all employ in our everyday lives.

  • She was the First Black Woman Elected To Congress

Have I mentioned that Shirley Chisholm had a historic career? Well, If I haven’t mentioned it, I will mention it now! 🙂 Chisholm made waves in Congress, not only with her presence as the first Black woman to be elected to Congress, but also in her initiatives that she successfully carried out while she was there (see the next two facts). She did not enter Congress and then slow the stream of achievements, on the contrary, when she entered Congress she began to make more change than ever. Let me just say, if this doesn’t encourage you to never settle for “good enough” I really do not know what will! 🙂

  • She Fought For Racial and Gender Equity

Shirley Chisholm had already reached a level of achievement that most other humans never reach, but instead of stopping when she was in the best position possible, she decided to work to help others to also gain the rights that they deserved. This is something that is just amazing because many people are not selfless enough to help others, but Shirley Chisholm was. She carried this selflessness with her throughout her career, and she helped so many people because of it.

  • She Worked to Increase the Minimum Wage

To notice people suffering and to remark about “what a pity it is” happens to be a common occurrence, but for someone to take it upon themselves to do what they can to lessen or eliminate the suffering is hard to find. Shirley Chisholm was someone that chose to make things happen. If she saw a problem she was ready to implement a solution, and that is exactly what she did with minimum wage. I find this to be very inspiring and I hope to also be the kind of person that finds and implements solutions to the world’s problems. I think that if we all transition from the “what a pity” mindset to the “how can I help” mindset, we can all follow in Chisholm’s footsteps to make the world a brighter place.

  • She Co-founded The National Congress of Black Women

Shirley Chisholm never gave up. She never stopped finding ways to unify people and to encourage others to use their minds and voices to make positive change. In Co-founding The National Congress of Black Women she did just that. Her drive to empower and encourage others to achieve was evident in all that she did, and in founding institutions such as this one, she helped to inspire a lot of progress and positive change.

  • She was Nominated by President Bill Clinton to Serve as the U.S. Ambassador to Jamaica in 1993

Shirley Chisholm was given the great honor of being nominated by a U.S. president to serve as a United States Ambassador in another country. Because of her flow of achievements and historical career, Chisholm was recognized for all that she had done. We too should recognize her achievements and celebrate her historic career. Her career is one that inspires women globally every day to strive for the absolute best in all that they do and to inspire positive change in their societies and the surrounding world.

  • Chisholm’s famous quotes:
  • “I want to be remembered as a woman … who dared to be a catalyst of change.”
  • “I’m a revolutionary at heart now and I’ve got to run, even though it might be the downfall of my career.”
  • “This is fighting Shirley Chisholm coming through.”
  • “Just wait, there may be some fireworks.”
  • campaign slogan: “Unbought and unbossed”
  • “I am not the candidate of Black America, although I am Black and proud. I am not the candidate of the women’s movement of this country, although I am a woman and I am equally proud of that…I am the candidate of the people of America, and my presence before you now symbolizes a new era in American political history.”

Thank you everyone for reading about this week’s amazing woman, Shirley Chisholm. Be inspired and help to celebrate her achievements and keep her memory alive by sharing this post with your friends and family. Come back next week for the next amazing woman in the “Amazing Women Series”! As always…

Make your dreams happen

Hello Everyone! How are you doing? Long time no see, but I promise that I have a good reason. As you may or may not know, I have been working on launching my “Fuel Her Dreams” fundraiser.  Fuel Her Dreams raises money for the education of girls in Malawi. Fundraisers have a lot of moving parts, in other words, they require a lot of time and effort to be properly carried out.  I am really enjoying the process of working on Fuel Her Dreams and getting ready to launch it for all of you! Well, that’s enough about what’s coming in the future, let’s talk about the content that I have for you today. Today we are talking about making your dreams happen and not taking no for an answer!

So, we’ve all heard no before. And for girls and women, we hear it way more often than not, especially when we are trying to achieve our goals and dreams. I’m here to tell you today, as someone who has been told repeatedly that she can’t achieve her goals and dreams, that we cannot afford to take no for an answer. You’re probably wondering why girls hear no so often when trying to make their dream happen, well in short, we hear no because adversity is very real. While our society has made many strides towards improving female equality, it still has a long way to go in terms of eliminating the adversity that we girls face every day. However, we cannot afford to let that stop us. We must rise above adversity and do everything in our power to make our dreams happen. You must do everything in your power to make your dreams happen.

The plain and simple truth is that there is only one person that can make your dreams happen is you. And you have a special gift, talent, and purpose in life that is unique to you. Unfortunately, many girls and women never take the chance to find out what their spark is. And what’s even worse is that those who do find their spark many times don’t pursue it due to the constant adversity that they face from society every day. I urge you not to join the numbers, don’t be another statistic, be a living, breathing person that is making her dreams happen. No one else can make your dreams happen for you, and that’s great! That’s so great because guess what? You already have everything  that you need to succeed: it’s already inside of you! So, I tell you once again to just go for it and to make sure that you never take no for an answer when it comes to making your dreams happen. Don’t ever be afraid to ask for help. People want to see you succeed, and you have cheerleaders everywhere that you look if you take the chance to find them. You got this girl! Get out there and make your dreams happen. Come back next week for some brand new content, and share this post with a friend that could use the message. Until next time…..

Hello Everyone and Happy Holidays! I hope that you are all doing well, today we are doing another post in the “keys to success” series. The first post was about finding your dreams, and this one is about believing in yourself. It is extremely important to believe in yourself because it is one of the first steps to achieving your goals and dreams as well as building self-confidence. In this post, we will talk about the importance of believing in yourself as well as the effects that it can have on the journey to your dreams. (if you don’t like reading, scroll to the bottom for the podcast episode) Without further ado, let’s get into it!

So, don’t get me wrong, I know that it can be extremely challenging to push away self-doubt and instead believe in your ability to succeed, but it is extremely necessary. Last week I wrote about how to get rid of insecurity, if you are struggling with that I highly encourage you to read that post first and then come back to this one when you are finished. Let me tell you about the wonderful world of self-confidence, it’s truly amazing what you can achieve when you believe in yourself. The goals that you can achieve, the mountains that you can move, the lives that you can change positively, the great successes that you can have if only you believe is amazing. When you are working towards your goals and dreams it is important to remember that aside from hard work and determination, it is really the belief that you can succeed that drives you to accomplish greater and greater successes.

Just look at Katherine Johnson, an African American female mathematician that allowed NASA to send astronauts into space with her amazing mathematical calculations. She experienced adversity every step of the way, and she no doubt had to hear people tell her over and over again that she wasn’t good enough or smart enough to succeed because of her gender and the color of her skin. She could have thrown up her hands in defeat and said “they’re right, I’m not good enough” but she didn’t. Instead, Katherine Johnson squared her shoulders, set her jaw, and told herself that she was good enough and smart enough to succeed. When she did that, she made a way for many other girls and women behind her. She inspired them to believe in their ability to succeed and to never limit their positive opportunities in life. I told you this story because I wanted you to know that you must understand the gravity of believing in yourself. When you believe in yourself, your chance at achieving your goals and dreams greatly increases because somewhere deep down in your soul you just know that you will succeed. The knowledge of that simple fact drives you to work harder each day as your determination to succeed builds and you stride towards the finish line of your goals and dreams. Before you can even say “Howdy” you’ll have reached your goals and greatly increased your self-confidence.

If you don’t take anything away from this post today, please take this, believing in yourself is one of the best things that you can do to better your life, achieve your goals and dreams, and build self-confidence. Know that you are amazing, beautiful, intelligent, and capable of all of your positive goals and dreams. You are a girl on a mission to change your life. It may be hard some days but just know that the world needs more of what you have and that we are all cheering you on and waiting to see what awesome thing you do with your life. Dream big because you can achieve everything positive that you set your mind to. Continue to believe in yourself and to be the best version of yourself that you can be. I’ll be here cheering for you as always, consider me your personal cheer squad “You Go Girl!”. Love ya, and see you next week! 🙂

Hello Everyone and Happy Holidays! Today we are talking about a topic that is extremely important in your journey to your dreams and also your overall confidence and wellbeing. I really hope that you enjoy this post and benefit from this topic about acknowledging insecurity. (if you don’t want to read this, just listen to the podcast episode, the link is at the bottom) Let’s get into it!

So let’s be honest, insecurity really has a way of creeping into our lives at unexpected times. Many times I’ve found that when seedlings of insecurity grow, they really take root and it’s hard to get rid of them. I’m sure that I’m no exception, but in my day to day life I find it hard to acknowledge insecurity and to ask for help when I need it; it seems that I’d rather struggle with it than ask for help sometimes. I’m here to tell you all today that it isn’t healthy to allow insecurity to flourish and to allow feelings of low self-worth to survive. Instead, we should be vocal about our struggles and take steps towards resolving them in the near future while leaning on each other for support. Before we get into how to mitigate feelings of insecurity, let’s talk about what some signs of insecurity are and the impact that they can have on your wellbeing and journey to your dreams.

I first started to notice that I was battling insecurity when I began to experience feelings of low self-worth and worry that everything that I did was wrong. Afraid to look people in the eye, I neglected to make eye-contact because I believed that I wasn’t worthy of respect from others. I also spoke in a somewhat quiet voice with my head bowed and my eyes downcast. All of this was done because I allowed the little voice of insecurity to whisper in my ear every day that I was worthless, ugly, unintelligent, and meant to be disrespected. This was a period in my life of extremely low self-confidence, I, in seventh grade was already convinced that my life was a complete waste. I allowed others to use me as a doormat (figuratively), I allowed them to taunt me and walk all over me with their words and laughter. I complied. I allowed myself to be silenced, all because of the nagging voice inside my head telling me that I was worthless. Since then I have slowly but surely silenced the self-depreciating voice inside my head and learned to acknowledge insecurity and stop it in its tracks. Which brings me back to this post, I want all of you to know that sometimes insecurity comes knocking at your door, but you need to believe that you are amazing and worthy of love and respect. If you notice any of the signs of insecurity that I mentioned above such as feelings of low self-worth, low self-confidence, and allowing others to disrespect you, please know that you are not alone and that you are worth much more than what the little voice in your head tells you. Let’s move on to how to mitigate these feelings.

If as you begin to acknowledge insecurity you notice that it is very severe and is causing other things such as depression, I highly encourage you to speak to your doctor or healthcare provider about it. If you are experiencing feelings similar to the ones that I felt and mentioned above, try these tactics and see how you feel afterward. My first tip is to start to do daily self-affirmations, these are sayings that you can repeat every day to remind you of your self-worth, beauty, and intelligence. I do them often and find them to be an immense confidence booster, some examples are “I am beautiful”, “I am worthy of respect”, “I am intelligent”, and “I am amazing”. My second tip is to make eye-contact with people and try your best to radiate confidence. I found that this tactic helped me the most, I guess in some cases (very few) you really do have to fake it until you make it! Lol 🙂 My final tip is to keep a journal of your thoughts and feelings. Throughout my journey to higher self-confidence, I found that writing in a journal made me feel a lot better, when I allowed myself to write my feelings down a  huge weight was lifted off of my shoulders because my mind could finally relax. I really hope that you try these tactics starting today and that you begin to find how to acknowledge and eradicate insecurity in your daily life. Your future is very bright, the world is waiting for you to be the next change maker and the next person to truly make a difference. Ignore the voice inside of your head and instead push on towards achieving your goals and dreams.

I have two words and two words only to preface this article, and those two words are: Be Inspired! I don’t know about you, but for me and millions (maybe even billions) of people around the world, Ruth Bader Ginsburg was (and still is) a huge inspiration! Her list of accomplishments is a mile long and her influence spreads far and wide. You don’t have to be from the United States to appreciate and be inspired by Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Today’s post covers Ten Things (maybe More) that you should know about her, and celebrate in her honor. The last thing that I have to say before we get into this post is the same as the first, Be Inspired, because if she can do it, you can do it as well. Let’s get into it!

Ruth Bader Ginsburg 10 Things *You Need* To Know!

Who was Ruth Bader Ginsburg? : Ruth Bader Ginsburg became the second female justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. Born in 1933 in Brooklyn, New York, Bader taught at Rutgers University Law School and then at Columbia University, where she became its first female tenured professor. She served as the director of the Women’s Rights Project of the American Civil Liberties Union during the 1970s and was appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia in 1980. Named to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1993 by President Bill Clinton, she continued to argue for gender equality in such cases as United States v. Virginia. She died September 18, 2020, due to complications from metastatic pancreas cancer. (History.Com)

  • She Graduated *First* in her class from Columbia Law School

That’s right everyone! Not only was Ruth Bader Ginsburg admitted into Columbia Law School, she also graduated at the top of her class! If this doesn’t inspire you to focus on your studies and to believe in your ability to succeed, I really don’t know what will! Take this as an opportunity to look at your studies as an opportunity to better yourself and the world. Put in the work now, I promise that it will pay off! 🙂

  • She Fought For Gender Equality In and Out of The Court House

Ruth Bader Ginsburg took every opportunity to stand up for what she believed in. She didn’t wait for the approval of others or a certain moment in time to start being vocal about her beliefs. She let all of the horses out of the gates, in other words, she stood up for herself and her beliefs right away. I encourage all of you to do the same; don’t wait for the approval of others to go after your positive goals and dreams. Start today! Don’t wait for “the right time” it might never come because no day is promised.

  • She was the *First* woman to be on both the Harvard and Columbia Law Reviews

Ruth Bader Ginsburg moved mountains. She broke barriers that no one had ever broken before her, therefore, making a path for girls and women like you and me. Girls and women that are working to achieve all of their positive goals and dreams and to leave the world a bit better than they found it. Fellow dreamers, achievers, and world changers ready and willing to make a way for ourselves and a better future for the next generation. Be Inspired, I believe in you and now it’s time for you to truly believe in yourself!

  • She became the second female law professor at Rutgers Law School, *and* fought for equal pay while she was there

Not only did Ruth Bader Ginsburg become The First  Female Law Professor at Rutgers Law School, she also Made a case for equal pay while she was there *And Won*. This was a legendary move, having the courage to stand up for yourself and others is already hard enough as it is, but Ruth Bader Ginsburg was fearless. She is a huge inspiration to so many people (myself included), and I would have loved to have met her in person. She will not be forgotten as she inspires billions of girls and women globally every day.

  • She co-founded the first law journal on women’s rights

Is there anything that Ruth Bader Ginsburg can’t do? She inspires girls and women in every field. From law to writing to medicine (to honestly everything) she makes a way for the people that come after her and inspires all to be the best that they can be.

  • She became the *First* tenured female law professor at Columbia Law School

Again I say Wow! Columbia Law School is no Joke. Ruth Bader Ginsburg excelled there as a student, and came back years later to break more barriers. She became the first permanent female law professor at the school and made a way for *fingers crossed* even more in the future!

  • She co-founded the Women’s Rights Project at The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)

Does Ruth Bader Ginsburg even sleep? The flow of achievements never stops with her, and believe me, I am Glad!  It is because of her that many girls and women globally have the confidence to go after their dreams every day. I can only hope that someday I have a similar impact on girls and women everywhere. I encourage all of you to achieve all of your goals and dreams, be confident in yourself and your abilities, and to never limit your positive opportunities in life. Your future is bright!

  • She argued six cases in front of the Supreme Court *And Won Five*

Argued Six cases in front of the Supreme Court and Won Five?? Ruth Bader Ginsburg never ceases to amaze! The kind of courage, talent, and drive required to make history like this, is immense and I mean immense!  It’s clear that Ms. Ginsburg was a woman with a mission, and she didn’t even have to say “Houston We Have A Problem” !  (Haha, I digress)

  • She became the first female Jewish Supreme Court Justice

Ruth Bader Ginsburg showed that your gender and religion don’t stop you from achieving great things. She changed the waters everywhere that she went, and she surely never disappointed. Don’t let anything or anyone dissuade you from following your dreams, there is nothing positive that you can’t do, and no dream that you can’t achieve.

  • She is one of the *Only Four* female justices in history

I can’t even find the words to express my happiness and joy at this one. Ruth Bader Ginsburg made it possible for girls and women like you and me to know and understand that we can truly achieve greatness if we set our minds to it. When I look at the list of achievement associated with Ms. Ginsburg, and feel inspired and empowered to be my very best self. I hope that you also find her inspiring and continue to believe in yourself and your ability to succeed. You are worth it!
